Day 5

If you're looking to get fat, New Orleans is the right place to visit.  I believe we have successfully tried all of the major local foods.  These include oysters, po boys, shrimp creole, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, and gumbo.  Everything comes in big portions and at lunch I had to leave some on my plate.

Speaking of food, we went to the Audubon Insectarium today and saw lots of cool bugs and ate a few.

Hannah was a wimp and didn't go for it...

After spending awhile looking at bugs, we walked all over the place, from the French Quarter to the business district to the warehouse/arts district.  In one particular area near the river you can find bunches of tarot card readers.  These folks crack me up.  They have names like "Zaar the Realistic Mystic" or "Angelic Jeffy".  If their intent is to get my imagination flared up enough to think that they can somehow divine what the future holds, the names they call themselves kind of miss the mark.  When you see Jeffy or Zaar sitting in their bag chairs at small folding tables in the sweltering heat, the last thing you think of is anything mystical.  Typically the person claiming the ability to see into your soul is a pudgy man wearing and ill-fitting shirt and a floppy hat with sunscreen smeared on his face.

We are wrapping things up here and plan on heading out tomorrow morning bright and early for Houston.  We'll be camping again (at least that's our plan...hasn't been working out lately) so updates will probably get sporadic.  We won't be staying in Houston, but about 30 minutes outside in Baytown, Texas.  It's on the east side of Galveston Bay.  The game plan is to spend the night there, go visit the Johnson Space Center, then head out for  San Antonio.
